In this ‘Insider Look’ series we take you inside the mind of a designer and give you a detailed look at a recent Kitchens by Kathie renovation. This installment showcases a ‘streamlined industrial’ approach to a major kitchen overhaul in Brisbane’s beautiful New Farm suburb.
The owners of this executive apartment close to the river at New Farm engaged Kitchens by Kathie to design and build custom cabinetry as part of an extensive renovation of their home.
The aim was to optimise storage, functionality and flow without drawing attention from the floor to ceiling panoramic views of Brisbane. The choice of materials and finishes used throughout the cabinetry all work together to create a contemporary look with an industrial feel. Handless opening cabinetry and floating shelves add to the minimalist and streamlined aesthetic.
The use of timber accents and feature lighting add warmth to the matt black cabinetry which boasts finger print resistant technology for easy cleaning. Smoky mirror splashbacks reflect the surrounding skyline views and make the space feel more open, spacious and bright.
Light coloured marble look engineered stone benchtops with a sleek 20mm profile help to balance the overall dark colour scheme of the space while the dark marble vein ties in beautify with the dark cabinetry. With supporting walls, unmovable doorways and service pillars to work around, we collaborated closely with our client to design a kitchen, bar area and entertainment unit cabinetry that fulfils all of their needs.
The design was completed with some custom planter boxes that enabled the owner to add some beautiful greenery to their home. The use of the same materials through helps to tie all the areas together creating a cohesive design.
