Welcome to the team Jane! We are delighted to have you join us. How long have you been working in the kitchen design and cabinet making industry and how did you start your career?
I started my career in Kitchens in 2007 after moving back to my hometown Brisbane after living in New Zealand for 10 years. Prior to that I Studied Interior Design and Décor in Christchurch and was working at a Design Centre in Dunedin specifying Soft Furnishings, Colour Schemes and Flooring.
What is the most interesting kitchen that you have worked on to date and what was your favourite aspect of the job?
I have worked on many exciting projects over the years. One project that I have worked on recently we integrated a ‘wine library’ into the kitchen which ran across what would otherwise be a blank wall. It added depth and texture to the space and was definitely the hero piece. Soft Grey Satin Flat Panel Handleless 2 Pack was used along with Matt Black Dekton Benchtops to create quite an Industrial Look.
Here at Kitchens by Kathie we are lucky to work with a diverse range of clients with many different tastes and home styles. Do you have a favourite style or ‘design trend’?
My favourite style would have to be Traditional / Hampton Style. It is definitely my favourite to design as each kitchen can be so individual and is perfect for Brisbane as we have so many ‘Queenslander’ Homes that this style suits.
What is the most valuable thing you have learned during your many years as a kitchen designer?
To always listen to the client’s wants and needs and adapt the kitchen design to their lifestyle. It is so important to get the design functional as well as aesthetically pleasing for each individual client.
What is the best advice you would give to a client about to embark on a new kitchen renovation?
To keep an open mind about new ideas and allow your designer to guide you in the right direction as this is what we specialise in. Our main aim at the end of the day is for you to love your new kitchen!
Thank you for sharing so much with our clients Jane!
